HD Install :: Anyone else make this mistake doing frugal upgrade

Hi
Maybe someone else won't make my mistake.  I had a frugal install of version 1.5 that I booted with GRUB.  I had gotten in the habit of just replacing the KNOPPIX file when doing upgrades to the new version.  When moving to version 2.0 things broke.  My pcmcia card was no longer usable.  To make a long story short I was still using the linux24 and minirt24.gz files from the previous version when booting up.  The new modules and the old kernel were not compatible and would not load.

Sooo, if you upgrade and still see messages about 2.4.26 going by, think about replacing linux24 and minirt24.gz with new ones.

Good luck

Yeah, I did the same thing with 2.0RC1 =o)
I had this problem when trying to go to 2.0rc1 also. I didnt know how to fix it so I just went back to 1.5. I plan on upgrading to 2.0 shortly but was worried about this problem again. If someone doesnt mind would you be willing to put a step by step of how to correct this. I am still kinda fuzzy on this. Thanks in advance.
Basically, copy everything from the CD instead of just KNOPPIX.  If you overwrite just the KNOPPIX file it will try to use the older 2.4.26 kernel, and things will break.
Yes.

Specifically, the minirt24.gz and the linux24 must also be upgraded.

But it doesn't hurt to just copy everything.
