HD Install :: Anyone else make this mistake doing frugal upgrade
Awesome thanks very much. I just upgraded and everything seems to be going pretty good. I appreciate the help, I guess I havent had to upgrade when concerning a new kernel.
Can one of you explain this further? I just re-did my frugal install and moved from 2.0 to 1.5, due to a nagging wireless NIC problem. I just used the desktop grub frugal install option after I booted on the DSL 1.5 CD. Would this have updated everything? I'm not really confident that this worked right, as the firefox and sylpheed icons no longer work.
Hi
I am not sure of your exact problem but one I have had with icons has to do with backup/restore. By backing up all of your home directory you back up your current settings. When you move to a new release the new icon settings sometimes get overwritten with old (incompatible) icon settings. Here is the .xfiletool.lst contents I use to solve some of those problems.
Cache
XUL.mfasl
deployment/cache
.opera/images
.opera/cache4
.xtdesktop
home/dsl/.fluxbox/menu
home/dsl/.xinitrc
There may be others I haven't identified yet.
good luck
The title "frugal update" is mis-leading.
As a "frugall update" was not done only copying the single KNOPPIX file.
If the frugal install script was re-run selecting update then the main system files would have been correct. This method to re-run the script should be used because often times other changes are made such as new boot codes that would only be in minirt24.gz.
The files that I have posted usually come in from backup/restore.
You may choose to always exclude them such as hawki has done.
