HD Install :: Invisible Partitions
I'm trying to install dsl on my hd but it doesnt see previously created partitions.running cfdisk says something like " r u happy with 0v bloc size" and then allows me to specify a new partition but on trying to write the part. info. to disk the pc locks up!!
The Pc is a Celeron 466 with 256M of ram and a smallish 3G HDU.
I have heard there are issues with SIS components ?
BUt I can/have installed a different dist. on the hd, with no problems - but I'd like to put dsl on, cos it's soo fast.
PLease help me- as I'm new to Linux - please!!
I got the same problem. I posted this message yesterday:
I'd like to use this topic to explain my problems.
I got two computers: Pentium 3 and Pentium 2. If I use P3 with live DSL CD, good, hda1 (Win98) is mounted and hda2 and hda3. If I use P2, nothing works. So I try TOMRSBT disk in P2. Good. It mounts hda1 (W98), hda2 (DSL) and can see hda3 (Swap) but as I said DSL no. If I use Mount Tool in P2 appears in it hda1, hda2 and hda3, but if I click the message is:
MOUNT: YOU MUST SPECIFY THE FILESYSTEM TYPE.
If you have sis hard drive controller on you computer it wont work, its the knoppix whics causes the problems, Feather linux is based on same(?) knoppix version as dsl and both of them cant recognice hd`s using SiS hd controller. it might have been fixed on newer versions of knoppix, i dont know havent tested it.
iam running STX linux on my p2 450mhz 128mb ram 6 gb, and it is fast, try it if you cant get DSL to work.
......
Thanks for that - I'll try STX!
