USB booting :: Download/Burning procedure

DSL v0.8.4 zip

I know nothing about Linux but this sounded so easy I just had to try it. Downloading it on "dial-up-modem" was a challenge of course. I extracted the download and burned that to a CD using Nero's "bootable data disk" option. When I boot off this disk it goes into a Dos screen. What am I doing wrong, what did I miss ? Please reply to me in simple terms, I'm just an average PC user but I always like to learn something new everyday.

oops, I meant this to be in the "How To"s".
To late now I guess !

Do this:

1) Copy the *.zip file over to your hard drive and unzip it.

2) Start up Nero

3) Cancel out any wizard popups.

4) From the top menu list, choose "File --> Burn Image"

5) Select the dsl.iso file inside your unzipped embedded directory from step 1.

6) Insert CD and burn it.

7) Reboot and watch DSL come to life.

I tried your 7 step instructions and it still booted in Dos. When it booted up off my CD it went through a bunch of Dos boot loading "jiberish"  and ends with the following:

"Caldera DR-dos 7.03
Copyright © 1976, 1998 Caldera INC. All rights reserved
[DR-DOS] A:\>"

Below is the zip  extracted files I got in the download:
bios.bin                      65 KB
dsl-linux.sh                 1 KB
dsl-windows.bat          1 KB
dsl.iso                       50355 KB
harddisk                     60001 KB
qemu                         2008 KB
qemu.exe                    515 KB
readme.txt                  1 KB
sdl.dll                   236 KB
uninst1~.nsu               2 KB
vgabios-cirrus.bin         31 KB
vgabios.bin                  29 KB

From that then I burned the "dsl.iso" file to my CD

Thanks for your reply cbagger01, I don't know, Maybe I should just buy the CD. I was going to donate anyway once I had it running. But if you see something I might be doing wrong or have any other suggestions, I'm not ready to quit just yet !

Don't use the "bootable data disk" option.

Start over with a new CD-R disk and depending on your version of Nero, either use File -> Burn Image

or use the  Recorder -> Burn Image choice if you are using Nero version 6 and you start it as Nero Burning ROM from the Windows Start menu.
