Multimedia :: Making the sound permanent on a frugall install



Hello all.

I'm a total newbie on linux and I'm starting to like DSL very much. I managed to do a frugal install on my Toshiba 4010CDS laptop's HD and thanx to some posts here I managed to configure the sound too.
I'm using the following line with modprobe:
#modprobe opl3sa2 io=0x538 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0

The problem is I don't have a clue how to make it permanent.
Any hints on this?
I'm a newb too, but I managed to get the same thing working, and just today!

To make it permanent (I think this is right) go to the prompt ant type

nano /opt/bootlocal.sh

and add the "modprobe opl3sa2 io=0x538 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0" at the bottom of the list hit ctrl-x to save and hit enter

This should make it so the sound card gets turned on automatically when DSL boots
(I think, it seemed to work for me, and I have a hard drive frugal too)

One problem this gives me though:  it boots ok with the sound card on, but all the mixer volume settings are back at zero, and all need to be slided up each time.  Maybe someone else can come in and say how to keep not only the sound, but the volume settings as well, that would be awesome!

^ Nifty!  I'll be able to help test that stuff out once I learn what the heck I'm doing :)

For now, I'm happy just to have sound, and can wait for the 3.2 to be awesomized.

I won't be able to test it until after the New Year though, I left my laptop at work, dough...    :p

Here's something you can try to keep the volume settings too:
