Multimedia :: Dual monitor support?

First off, YES I know that ATI is a poor-choice for Linux distro's given their abysmal history of working with the *NIX community, but I don't have the money to buy anything else, I have to use what I've got. (Unless you'd like to donate an nVidia card to me? :laugh: )

My card is an ATI Radeon Xpress 600 Pro, 256Mb DDR PCIe card.
I can config DOS to give me two separate monitors; Windows XP allows me to do this with just a few clicks of the mouse; but is there a n00b-friendly way to get this under *NIX in general, DSL specificly?

I assume you could do it with Xfree86.dsl extension, but you have a fairly new card so no guarantees.
Ok, thanks...

It kinda bites to have two 19" LCD's that I can use under everything except *NIX.
(Sighs)
I'm too used to having all my "notice" apps open in one monitor, & all my "working" apps in the other.

I am confident that you CAN use it under *NIX, but you might need a newer X Windows server such as the XOrg server.

For example, download a copy of the KNOPPIX 5.01 LiveCD and burn yourself a disk.  Then give it a try.

Afaik, if you can get XFree86 working, all you need to do is load a generic dual-monitor configuration for it. (see XFree86Config-4)

If somehow there is a limitation in doing this, you could always try doing this with the proprietary drivers. (as I don't see XOrg coming to DSL soon... unless you use another distro as previously suggested)
