HD Install :: cant find dependencies file

ive tried installing DSL again - and this time when i boot in, it cant find the network, and tells me that i have no network card installed.

this is odd because it works fine running as a livecd.

i think the root of my problem is in this message that i get at boot :

modprobe: Cant open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.4.25-2mdk/modules.dep (no such file or directory)

anyone have any ideas?
