HD Install :: problems with frugal installation

hello

i have the following problems:

my keyboard is still in us-mode(i need german-mode)
the applications are vanished by the next reboot..

what have i done so far

i created 3 partitions for a frugal installation

hda5 for my dsl image(75 mb)
hda6 swap (500mb)
hda7 for /opt/var/home/dsl..(10 gb)

then i switches to xterminal and tiped in :/usr/sbin/frugal-install.sh
home=hda7 dsl=hda7 toram
installed lilo and worked fine after reboot(except the us-keyboard is still there )

so, next step was the installation of mplayer with the codecpack(both dsl)

i had the dsl files on a usb-stick and copied them to /opt
then i pressed the dsl-button in emelmf

then system/backup-restore...and hda7 backup button aktivated

okay mplayer is working..
when the system i shutting down, i can see in the textmode, that the system backup my hda7 and shut down correctly afterwards.

after the reboot the mplayer is vanished..hmmm

what have i done wrong??
any solution to the keyboard-problem?

ps: i am not afraid of the console in linux but not very experienced too...so be patient ..
ar there any step bystep howtos for installation af applications?

i have done the frugal installation exactly to the pdf-file (frugal installation)

so any tips would be great...thanks in advance for your efforts
