HD Install :: how become root

Hi folks,
sorry, but I´m new and obviouslto silly to search
I have installed the new RC on my stick and I like to go to the internet. I have german DSL-Flatrate at t-online.de I have started PPPoE, as I know it from knoppix. I tried "pon dsl-provider" but it did not work. I think I have to be root. But how can i become root?
Su first, but then?
Please excuse my bad english.
