HD Install :: Dillo Getting Started

Are you logging in as a different user?  That's the only thing I can think of.  If that's the case then changing files in /home/dsl will have no effect.  Try editing /home/jimbo/.xinitrc instead.
I almost always log in as "root".

Any other suggestions? It acts like there is another file being used. Is there an alternative or a backup to .xinitrc?

Thanks, jimbo

Hmm, not sure what file is used when you login as root. Could it be the .xinitrc in /etc/skel?

Chris

Well, there is a .xinitrc in /etc/skel but it has no effect on the dillo page at boot.

But, the .xinitrc in /root does control the dillo page at boot. So with the dillo line commented out, my DSL now boots without the dillo getting started page.

That brings up another question. I could not find a "find file" application in my installation.  Any suggestions on a good find file app for DSL?

Thanks, jimbo

Glad you found it. My /root dir doesn't have the user files because I've never logged in completely as root so I never thought of that.

You can use 'whereis' but I just tried it with .xinitrc and it didn't return anything. Maybe it has issues with hidden files or needs a specific flag.

There is also 'locate'. I think you need gnu-utils.dsl for it to work. You do an 'updatedb' and then something like 'locate .xinitrc' and it'll find all occurances. If you do 'locate *.lst' it will find all files with the '.lst' suffix.
