HD Install :: cpp fails sanity test ?

after kinda getting apt-get working.

Ive installed make and gcc.

I downloaded proFTPd ....... un tar'd it

tried to do a ./configure

and it gives me an error saying cpp fails sanity test

any pointers for me ?

Fixed this with a fresh 0.6.2 install ....... synaptic ...... and installing gcc 3
