HD Install :: hard parrtition

i would like to partition my harddrive for dsl installation into 3 partitiions /root, /swap, and finally /home. is it possible to do this/if so step by step instructions on how to write the filesystem.

also regarding the user, can i setup my own user or add my user without the automatic dsl user that is done during the installation.
