HD Install :: Need partitioning utility
Hi,
DSL Rocks! It's the only mini-distro I can get to run on my old 233/48mb clone. Problem- I'd like to install to HD. It's no longer just curiosity, it's personal now. I know LiveCD works, but I want to run it on HD. When I run the install or cfdisk it says it can't access the partitions. I need a floppy-based partitioning utility since my PC won't boot from CD (requires a bios upgrade I REFUSE to pay for). I'm currently booting off the boot floppy + CD.
Any suggestions? Tried fdisk at a dos prompt, created a primary and extended partitions & activated primary hoping DSL would let me install to it upon boot, but like I said, cfdisk says: "FATAL ERROR: Cannot open disk drive..."
I know I've not partitioned it right, but I can't boot from CD so I can't run qparted off of my Knoppix CD. Are there floppy-sized utilities that a fairly new linux user could manage?
Appreciate your help. I really want to walk away from Bill, but this is so frustrating....
Nevermind.....turns out the hd was set as a primary slave and DSL didn't see it. Set it to primary master and cfdisk works fine.
Hi
Are you sure your running cfdisk as root? If not try:
sudo cfdisk /dev/hda
good luck
Nevermind!!
My connection is soooooooooooo slooooooooow today that by the time I got my message in you had figured it out.
