HD Install :: Keyboard problems

Having a media keyboard i was frustrated when i lernt XMMS dosent support these keys (or at least wont hotkey anything). I pressed on to find this usefull post :

Explaining how to make XMMS recognise multimedia keys using the xev command. I cant get this to pick up my mediakeys signal(s) is this because of the US keyboard profile i am using?

any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

I also note that i have a zero repeat rate when i hold down keys, but i can live with that.

DSL uses the Xvesa X-server. This is a slimmed down X-server and if I remember correctly, it inherits the console keyboard settings.

The only possible solution I can think of (assuming what I wrote above is correct), is to install the full XFree myDSL package.
