HD Install :: upgrading

hi guys, i have been using dsl for a few months now, but not that often. it is my first real experience with linux. i am running 0.74 i think, installed to hard drive, on a tosihba 310cdt lappy, and i want to upgrade to 1.0. can i do this without losing any of my settings. if so, how? any help would be appreciated.
