HD Install :: Need some info on HDD install
hi
this is the situation
i have a pentium 133 mhz, 1,6 gb hdd and 16 mb ram computer.
Had some troubles booting from cd but used oldbios to boot the cd from a floppt
I know running it live into the ram doesnt work because i dont have enough ram
i got into the root by booting with this option: dsl 2 (no X)
windows 98 is still installed on the pc, so i need to format
then i think i need a program to partitionate my hdd (dont know if this is correct in english, im dutch)
and last but not least install it to the harddisk
i searched and read a lot of posts but they dont really match my problem i think, some people talk about frugel, but i dont know what it is.
k im a linux n00b so please explain it to me step by step
jasper
(if there is any previous message matching this please give a link and delete my post
and sorry in that case)
i tryed to load DSL from the harddisk by putting the knoppix file in
C:/knoppix/knoppix
but now i get an anoying error
"cant find knoppix file system" and a shell with 6 options
how do i pass this message?
What are you booting with?
Make sure it is C:/knoppix/knoppix and not C:/Knoppix/Knoppix or something like that.
dsl fromhd=/dev/hda1
im booting with the floppy image
the adress is correct
i'll try the hdd command
Needs to be lowercase letters for knoppix\knoppix
After booting DSL into minimal GUI, immediately choose the Create DOS swap file option from the menu and create a 64MB or larger swap file.
Then reboot the machine.
I have found
dsl vga=785 xsetup base noicons
and choose xfbdev server
will sometimes work with low memory computers.
