HD Install :: HD Install Problem

Am booting from floppy for CD to have HD Install
instructions say to 'sudo'
sudo is not available. setup goes as far until:

'INIT: PANIC: segment violation at 0x804e19a! sleeping for 30 seconds'

what am i doing wrong on install?
i have read every file and no method has worked so far
