HD Install :: installing from iso
Thanks for the info. I get the message, you'd rather I'd started a new thread. Sorry.
I've downloaded a frugal install.sh from the web and will have a look at amending it for use with either lilo (my usual boot manager for Vector) or tomsrtbt.
Thanks,
Colonel Panic.
I tried it but the install failed, and I'm reluctant to risk trashing a partition on which I already have data. I might have a go at spliting up the iso and loading the bits separately from LILO, my main distro's boot manager; if there's an easy way of doing that and it's already been covered here, I'd be grateful for the link.
Best,
Colonel Panic.
You really only need three files for DSL.
linux24
minirt24.gz
KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX
Easiest method is to grab the zip file of DSL.
Even though you are not going to run embedded or Qemu, it is an easy upzip.
Then your question becomes a lilo question based on the format and version of lilo of your existing distribution.
In fact, with just the KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX and the DSL boot floppy you should be able to run DSL without distrubing your existing setup.
Using the DSL boot floppy sounds like a very good idea. I might give that a go soon.
Thanks for the tip,
Best,
Colonel Panic.
