HD Install :: New HD install problems
Newbie here.
I ran DSL from Live CD for a week or so on an old Toshiba 2505 laptop. Everything seemd to be OK, even got wireless LAN working. Very cool.
So I go ahead and install from HD and make it permanent (and useful again). Now I get the following on boot after install.
PCMCIA found, starting cardmgr.
cardmgr[52]: starting, version is 3.3.3
cardmgr[52]: socket 0: PROXIM LAN PC CARD HARMONY 80211B
cardmgr[52]: executing: 'modprobe hermes'
cardmgr[52]: executing 'modprobe orinoco'
cardmgr[52]: executing :'modprobe orinoco-cs'
cardmgr[52]: executing './network start eth0'
cardmgr[52]: + Debian network setup
cardmgr[52] + /sbin/ifup eth0
cardmgr[52] + ifup: Ignoring unknown interface eth0
.....
.....
Network device eth0 detected, DHCP broadcasting for IP. (Backgrounding)
.....
.....
sr0: CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST.
Loading /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/us.kmap.gz
box login: eth0: Error -110 setting multicast list
At this point the startup just hangs.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Bill
Problem fixed.I'm not 100 percent sure why, but after re-installing and setting proper swap file, all seems to be much, much better.
DSL has brought new life to an old laptop that might have otherwise been junked.
Thanks,
Bill
