HD Install :: can you install from an existing os?
Hi all,
I have a old laptop that has debian 3.1 on it and i cant seem to get the gui working so i was wondering if its possible to install DSL from the command line of the debian?
no the cdrom does not read burned cd's
no i dont know enough to do a network install
(however debian auto did this so i didnt have to)
yes im a gnuoob
laptop is a 166/32m/2g/dinosaur
You can install frugal from an existing distro:
1. create and/or format a ext2 or ext3 partition
2. mount the iso or cd
3. copy the contents of the iso to the ext2 partition
4. add the dsl kernel to your existing bootloader
You might be able to do something similar for a traditional harddrive install, but i've never tried it to say for sure.
Maybe you can do it the same way as I do it:
