HD Install :: adding OS to grub

I'm considering adding a debian distro to another partition, and hopefully can just edit the grub menu.lst to the new OS as a choice. Presently, my setup is:

#title Windows
#root (hd0,0)
#chainloader +1
#makeactive
#boot

The new OS will probably be hd,3,0 (hda4). I'm not sure if I can do this manually, or if I should just reinstall grub after reformating and loading the other OS. Thanks
