HD Install :: resizing a partition without loosing data...



So, I have one DSL install running on vmware that is about 600 meg, with 3 apps, these 3 apps are being split off into individual operating systems (dsl). I already split everything and am preparing to delete what I don't need, but here is the question, the size on each one will drop immensely, so is there anyway for me to resize the partition from my 600 meg to the size I will be using, roughly 150 meg.

I suppose I could just take my splits, attach the drive in vmware and then copy the whole directory structure to a smaller drive, but will I hit any permissions issues with that?
You need FIPS. Google it. There are versions for a few operating systems, including linux.
Ghost and Acronis will also allow you to make an image that you can then install on the new partition. Resizing a partition within VMware is not recomended.

As a newby  :p I'm not sure I understand everything you're doing.

As for the basic question:  Defrag each partition to move everything to the front.

Then resize the partition.

I did this once when I first installed, I think the tool was called QTparted.
