HD Install :: DSL Versions

Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie and would like to install DSL in my laptop.  DSL download sites however show various versions.  Please let me know what dsl-syslinux.iso is specifically for and what dsl-current.iso version is for.

Thanks; have a good and happy day!

Hi, you can find an explanation of dsl-syslinux.iso here

http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Syslinux_or_Isolinux

and the current version will be the same as dsl-2.4.iso (i.e the lastest version)

The generic names are pointers, i.e., links to the current relase number. This way scripts can be wriiten to always fetch the lastest version without having to know the actual current version number.

Can you provide a copy of such an install script?  If I have a frugal install will it automatically download and install a newer version?  That would be too cool!
Thanks in advance --Ted

The frugal install scripts when selecting install from (W)eb.
For example if a new version of DSL comes out, you don't need to download and burn another cdrom in order to do a frugal install or upgrade.

Use your old existing DSL cdrom and use the web install method, then select the name of the iso that you want, it defaults to current.iso to do the frugal upgrade or install.

Also the frugal_lite.sh, network install script also does this.
