HD Install :: Laptop HDD on USB interface!
sorry, double post.
OK, I think the solution is going to be much mor esimple than that. Your hard drive in the case is sda1. That makes sense because in the linux 2.4 kernels USB HDD devices are seen as SCSI. Try to do a USB HDD pendrive install to sda1, and set your BIOS to boot from USB HDD.
hi guys!..got the same problem...
what i've done so far:
I have a PC w/c has a cdrom. so, i removed the hdd from my laptop and place it on a usb external enclusure and hooked it up to my PC.
boot up DSL on PC and selected "install to HDD" from the menu. i followed the instructions( i guess ) tell it promted me to reboot.
I think i was wrong here:
the hdd was partitioned this way...2gig primary, 128 swap, 3 gig logical using partition magic.
when the installation promted me w/c hdd i want to install dsl to...i just placed "sda1" w/o thinking...(i assumed that the hdd in the usb enclusure was auto mounted)
but it never halted meh if i was wrong or if the partition existed...the installation just continued. so, i guess i was right.
when the installation promted that it is finished and i need to reboot, i did not reboot it. instead, i turned the pc off and removed the hdd from the enclosure and placed it back to the laptop.
boot up the laptop...
it booted w/ lilo as boot loader...but it resulted to a kernel panic....
please help us......
I think you've got to change lilo since you changed the set up. it is proably pointing to sda1, but now you need it to point to hda1. So try going in to lilo and change root=sda1 to root=hda1. Remember with lilo you have to run lilo in command to activate the new settings.
thanks for the reply kerry....
i forgot to mention that kernel panic occured before it could reach the x window system(fluxbox)...then it would hang up.
so, how do i go in to lilo and change the setup?
sorry..im not very good at linux....
