HD Install :: no modem -- need gnu-utils, apt, etc
So, I've installed DSL 2.2 to HD. Problem is, that box has no internet connection (or the likelyhood of one). Essentially, it has usb and a NIC and I only have diallup via serial port on this box.
So, I want to install the gnu utils and dpkg and apt and all so I can put other stuff on from CD, etc. But I can't locate anything later than extensions for 0.7!
What's going on?
Unless the myDSL package is a kernel module, it most likely will work in any newer version of DSL. Applications that do not require a particular kernel will not be affected by changes in DSL versions, since most changes are made to individual applications, bug fixes, and additions.
Problem is, I can't find apt/dpkg, etc. Someone has removed (?) the packages........
I'm going to have to try Knoppix: I'm told/believe that the issues I've been having with Kanotix relate to it using GrUB rather than isolinux..................
Use an Internet capable computer and a USB pendrive to save the following extension files:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....pkg.dsl
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....ils.dsl
Then boot DSL on your desired machine with the thumbdrive connected.
Open the emelfm file manager and navigate to the /mnt directory
Right-Click on "sda1" or your thumbdrive mountpoint and choose "Mount" from the menu.
highlight the file (single-click) and then press the MYDSL button inside Emelfm.
