HD Install :: problem
ok iv got a problem
( i tried to install xfree86 and now when i boot it gets no where saying no such file or directory n bla bla, before altering the files to run xfree86 i backed them up by saving under another name ie with an _ :P and i planned to go in from the live cd anr replace the files if they didnt work, only problem is when i boot from the live cd its restoring from the hda7 and not letting me go in to X window to make the changes
fixed that just reinstalled everything makes it all cleaner from mt previous mistakes anyway :P
on a another note, is there a newbie step by step guide or a how to install Xfree86, i searched the forum on this n found lots of info but its not really helpfull unless u know what ur doing anyway,,, im after this for both my home pc and my laptop install and after trying a few times on both machines i still havnt got a clue how to get it working n not have the boot crash on me.
Just read another post that sounds related and brought a question to mind. How much RAM do you have? Also, you can keep DSL from restoring by using the cheatcode dsl norestore when you boot.
usually 512 but at the moment down to 256 due to a dead stick
memorys up to 1gb of corsair low latency matched mem
does anyone have a link or know of any step by step guides for using Xfree86? i dont want to kill my computer again trying to get it running, but i would like to get it running to get video working to its optimum.
