Yes..if you download the iso and burn to cd and your machine can boot from cd then just drop it in and boot and it will run the operating systen in ram..if you want to you can run from hd or do a frugal install or install to hd..if you can not boot from cd download the boot.img and rawrite to a floppy and use it to boot the cd..if you want to install to hd you will need a linux partition..I think win98 will allow you to remove a fat partition but you will need to use linux fdisk to create a linux partition..if that helps..I am a newbie myself.You need: a linux partition for the compressed image and grub a linux partition for personal files a linux swap partition for virtual memory.
make sure you tell fdisk to write them to disk. Use mke2fs on the first two and mkswap on the swap.
run the cd with th toram option.
Just find the grub hardrive install option in the menu and bobs your uncle.
