HD Install :: No CD. Just floppy.



Hello there fellows. I have a laptop that I want to try DSL out on. I have tried Knoppix booting from a cd before (not on the laptop) and i loved it. I think I will love this too. The problem is that i do just have floppy, and yeah a usb-port and internet. No CD. I have Windows 98 installed on it right now.

I have searched the forum for answers but have not found any. :angry: How can I install it without a CD-drive?  
Or is it not possible  ???

The computer is like this:
366 mhz HP Omnibook 900
96 megs of ram
6 gb hd

And there is 2 partitions, one with windows and files and one with the windows-cd only. Hope someon can help me  :D

If you have another pc you can 'transfer' the contents of knoppix/dsl cd to the laptop put it in a folder named /knoppix
You have to boot in the pc with knoppix/dsl and:
#dd if=/cdrom/knoppix/boot.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=18k
That's all folk you can use the floppy to boot from the laptop
your particion with /knoppix folder will be a cd while dsl session is on

Actually I did just that, with a floppy

Takes a bit of work but is well worth it in the longrun
