HD Install :: boot disc?

I have an old machine that cannot boot from the cdrom.  How do I go about in creating a bootdisc on a floppy?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do I make a a boot floppy?
In Linux, mount your cdrom, and do this:
dd if=boot.img of=/dev/fd0
From MS/DOS you need a utility called rawrite2.exe to make an image out of the same file.

I've tried, but after the floppy spins around for a little and seems complete, i double click the drive, and it needs to be reformated.  Still hoping it would boot, I restarted, inserted the floppy, but it brought up an error right at the begining.  So I downloaded another program, that copied the floppy image I needed to a folder on the harddrive.  This file I noticed was 1.44 Mb.  The limit that i can use on any floppy is at 1.38 for some reason.  Yet, the floppy clearly reads "1.44 MB".  Is there any hope for this problem?  Thanks for your help :laugh:
I use Smart Boot Manager.  It should work for most systems.
