USB booting :: I got it to usb boot but now more problems:(

I have tried 2 usb drives.

ONe 256mb Sandisk cruser and a 1.0gb SanDisk cruser

I installed to the 1.0gb first. No errors so i thought everything was ok. I booted off usb and it said OPERATING SYSTEM MISSING when it detected the usb drive at boot. So i installed it again from the live cd to the same 1.0gb drive and same error again. MISSING OS

Then i tried my 256mb. Installation went fine. I boot with it and it is fine untill it gives me a kernel panic error then the system freezes.

what is going on
