Hmmm... I have it installing to /opt/.firefox_plugins now...

after installing the plugin ( extension )
in your browser, type this as a url.

about:plugins

If , in the list, you see the plugin listed, as playing
wmv, mpg, and other types, then it is linked..

mplayer is not showing as a plugin...just java and flash

We have two /opt directories going here

/opt/firefox/plugins AND /opt/.firefox_plugins

The mplayer plugin places the 2 files in /opt/firefox/plugins while the java and flash files reside in /opt/.firefox_plugins

I have tried moving the mplayer files to /opt/.firefox_plugins but it doesn't make any difference.

Chris

While I have moved the files in the plugin from /opt/firefox/plugins
to /opt/.firefox_plugins, you may still see issues about the plugin not
working because it is compiled to work with the gtk2 versions of Firefox.

It works for me because I use the gtk2.dsl, and
the firefox-gtk2-1.0 version, which uses gtk2.

I have the mplayerplug-in files in my backup.
But loading the mplayerplug-in.dsl with the gtk+ versions
of Firefox does not work, and shows errors about many
libs missing, and even with the missing libs added, it then shows
errors about mismatch in gtk versions.

What you need is a version compiled for X or gtk+
I don't think this one will do for you, since your not
including gtk2 in your builds.

I did add symlinks in the package for /opt/firefox/plugins to point to
/opt/.firefox_plugins , so it should work with all packages.

I remember there was a different compilation command for gtk1 on the Firefox plugins page. Maybe we need two builds?
I'd say so !!

Anyone care to contribute ?

I've got a plateful !!
