myDSL Extensions (deprecated) :: dsl probs

i use the following command (as root) to unpck a dsl file:
tar -C / -zxvf samba.dsl

it gives me about 20 no such file errors and then about 5 about the filesysstem it needs to write to being write protected, can anyone help?

The "write-protected" thing may be addressed here: http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....1;t=356

What version of DSL are you using?  0.7.2 has a built-in myDSL installer as part of emelfm.  Otherwise, you might try "sudo tar" instead of just "tar", since you're writing to system directories.

If Samba could be loaded that way, it would be called samba.tar.gz.

There are at least three ways to load a .dsl extension.

1. the myDSL button in emelfm
2. the myDSL desktop icon
3. mydsl-load from the shell prompt as user dsl

Thanks for that info
The mydsl-load script looks interesting....it'll be fun to play around with =o)

i am using 0.7.1

i am doing the op as root, i have also tried with sudo.

i see a mydsl button in emelfm, i will try it.

thanks
