myDSL Extensions (deprecated) :: How do i run .dls applications?

I have downloaded a few app's off this site with the .dsl extension, but i cant figure out how to run them. I save them on my harddrive in windows, boot up in dsl mount the hard drive, but when i go to the location i saved them at there not there. If i try downloading a .dsl while in dsl it just appers as a text file in with random jibberish.

Also, my second question, whats synaptic? I installed it and run it, and i found a few games, clicked install, and proceed, and it installed them. The only thing i cant figure out is where are they? How do i run them?

Sorry for so many questions, im a newbie in dsl and linux.

.dsl applications should include at least a mydsl menu entry, many come with icons...... how are you trying to download them?     open an xterm type wget then right click your mouse on the link to the /dsl you want select copy link location then paste into the xterm after wget then press enter when that has downloaded open emelfm in /home/dsl you will see the dsl file highlight it by left clicking the mouse
then click on the mydsl button at the top.....
this will install the app for you the program name should appear in the mydsl fluxbox menu and an icon may appear on your desktop... there are a few exceptions VBA being one of them

Synaptic installs debian packages but does not  update menus/icons......
you need to know what programs you installed then you should be able to start this by selecting run program from the menu then typing the name of the program in and pressing enter.......
hope this helps... if you are having probs with a specific app then treply here I'll see what i can remember.....
I'm not actually at my dsl pc right now

for downloading, you can also use any web browser and right click on the link to the .dsl and select "Download link" or something like that.
Once it's done, open emelfm, chose the .dsl file you downloaded and press the MyDSL button. Your program should install itself.

you can do this but some browsers especially firefox can sometimes mangle the app wget is far more reliable..........

you get less trouble with apps, or use the my dsl gui for the packages no longer in testing.......

I've got a question reguarding .dsl's. I downloaded openoffice.dsl , used WinISO to add it to the DSL iso in the /optional directory, and burned the ISO using Nero. I booted into DSL, opened the DSL menu. Went to myDSL>openoffice.dsl (i think that was what it said). Nothing happened. Any suggestions on what could be wrong, or a better way to install the .dsl.

Also, firefox.dsl doesnt seem to be in the repository. What would be the best way to get it so its already on the cd and doesnt have to be downloaded?
