Apps :: nicq vs. proxy

Is it possible to run nicq and nirc when I am behind proxy server? I tried to look inside configuration files, but there isn't anything like "http_proxy=..." (resp socks proxy). Can anybody help me?

BTW - I am new in DSL - is there any graphical ICQ messanger I can easily install to DSL (when installed to hard drive)?
