Apps :: Opera 7.54 does not work / DSL 0.8.1
That was very well done. Your work there is a credit to this forum.
---
I have Opera 6.03 installed on my DSL 0.8.2, but I tend to do this sort of thing
like this, and make a remaster to include the additional software.
---
I have Redhat Linux 9 installed on this computer. I booted into that, and do have
a running and normal installation of Opera from a .tar.gz.
---
I gunzipped and tar -xvf that in a download directory in a user account.
Then, I did the installation from that.
Then, after Opera was installed, and running
right, I did "whereis opera" and got the list of directories where the opera
is installed. I then rebooted into DSL 0.8.2, mounted the Redhat partition, and
(yes) copied the Opera installation over to my remaster "master copy", using Emelfm.
---
Now, when the remaster is done, Opera is there, (added to fluxbox menu by hand also), and boots up to the license screen. Once you get it up and running, you will have an /home/dsl/.opera directory. That has to be added to your masters filetool.lst, and then when a backup/restore is done, it's saved, just for you, but not on the CD (which you might loan out, and don't want your opera stuff on it) You could master that in, but there is that little problem of the
Opera registration number, everybody supplies their own for their restoration of /home/dsl/.opera
---
I know, my method is a hack, and a lot of trouble. I do want to say again that
your work on getting the latest Opera to work right is outstanding, and will
help a lot of DSL users to get this fine web browser working. I find that Opera
6.03 runs with a lot less resources used than Firefox, so I do use it often.
