Apps :: Adding Applications

i was wondering if it was possible to add applications to DSL before i burn it to a cd?  so i won't have to use a portion of my hd. this way i'll have them no matter where i use DSL
That's what apt-get is all about. Part of my installation process is:

sudo apt-get install apache php4 smbfs samba make gcc g++ tk8.4-dev synaptic tn5250 wmtop wmweather tsclient xmms-dev xcdroast xine0ui mozilla-firebird gaim LinNeighborhood vncserver hdparm

If nothing else, install synaptic and page through all the available packages to see what you want to install.

The source file of installed packages (wmweather_2.4.2-1_i386.deb, for example) are stored in /var/cache/apt/archives.

Mark,
I think he wants to install apps to the CD itself, so they're present on a LiveCD boot.

Void,
Short answer: no.

Long answer: Ya, but it takes some work. You'll still have to have useable hard drive space (a few hundred Mb). See http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/KnoppixRemasteringHowto It's not quite the same, but very similar to remaster DSL.

With John's permission, I'll whip up a DamnSmall Remastering HowTo. (when I find the time... maybe this weekend, but not positive)

Gotcha....thanks. I wouldn't mind doing that myself, too.
Oh a DSL remastering howto would be sooooo useful! Esp if john keeps slipping out thses updates! ;)

Keep up the good work :)
