Apps :: Virus or memory problem?

It has 96 MEGs of RAM.  It seems like when I use the .dsl packages it wants to crash.  Am I pushing the limits when I am adding like that.
It has not had a problem when I run it just with what was included origionally.

On a different note, I want to congradulate you on a fine distrobution, and your availibility when there are questions.

Yes, I would say you are pushing the limits. The base should run fine. But most any extension will be pushing it. Maybe, I should consider doing more .ci types. They use less memory. Have you tried the firefox.ci extension? I know you don't have enough memory for openoffice.
I have not tried firefox.  I was under the impression firefox was a web browser.  Rox is a file explorer, and that is what I wanted to use.  I can get away with not using any .dsl's and working with what is included.  You have more than enough on disk to do what I need.
Just so you know, I have set it up as a web server, and is about all I use it for.  I boot off the CD, and the HD is only used to store the files.  A great and secure server with the added benefit of not needing to worry about viruses.
Also, this forum looks alot better through Linux then it does through XP.

 Thanks again for your help

FYI,

The rox.dsl itself does not use much memory.  Your web browser's "cache" will use up more memory after a little while surfing the internet. You can check on your memory usage by typing in the following from an Xterminal window:

free                    (total free memory)

or

ps -aux | more              (memory usage for each process. Look at RSS value)

If you install DSL to hard disk, you will be able to add a bunch of *.dsl extensions without paying any penalty because they will be saved on to the hard drive file system instead of the ramdisk.

First, do a hard disk install (full install, not a poormans or frugal install).

Then reboot, open an xterminal and type in the following:

sudo su
tar -zxvf rox.dsl -C /
exit
/opt/.start_rox

and you should have the Rox Filer installed to your hard disk with a desktop icon.

Good Luck.

Recently, after the cache 'fooled" me a couple of times,
( It wasn't refreshing with EVERY change to a page,
although I could force it to do so with a shift-reload )

I have been setting the cache limit to 1kb

With a DSL connection, why use cache?
Especially from the LiveCD..
