Other Help Topics :: How was it stripped down to 50MB?
I'm very curious how it was stripped down to 50MB from knoppix? I want to learn how to do this?
I've been searching for days now I've got some few ideas from the search results yet still not enough.
How someone might able to answer.
Search around for "remastering"
remastering is more on updating an existing knoppix like distro. I was hoping someone or some docu's that tells you what you can remove and what you shouldn't.
for e.g. if you debootstrap, dpkg won't allow you to remove some of the deb packages because their the core packages that made the base system.
However, there are some workaround with this I know for sure someone has done this and I'm hoping not to re-invent the wheel.
My goal is to create a gibraltar like distro as small as DSL perhaps smaller because I would need only iptables & apache & php. It would be a great start for me to learn embedded/tiny/micro linux distribution. I've already started knoppix from scratch but its too fat.
I want to do this because of my curiosity and give a headstart for curios guy like me how to build your own that suits your desire.
Have you tried looking at puppy barebones it's like 39mb or if you don't need gui there's onebone 28mb. take a look -> http://www.puppylinux.org/user/downloads.php?cat_id=1
