Can you set DSL to boot into JWM, and at that point is there anyway to save your settings in that GUI?

Using backup/restore will take care of both. Remove "home/dsl/.jwmrc" from .xfiletool.lst to keep your jwm settings, and make sure you switch to jwm before the backup is created.
