Other Help Topics :: Graphics Problems
Hi everyone! I just started using DSL on Friday. It's a really neat little tool, but unfortunately I cannot seem to get the maximum benefit from it due to some problems I've been having, and I figured that this forum would be the best place to post my queries.
My main problem is with the graphics. They start out normal (well, they start out grey, then normal), but when I select most applications things start to go wrong. The colour of my wallpaper changes (from the image of Saturn to, like, an infrared image of the same planet). What is particularly frustrating are the odd colours. They turn very strange when I'm viewing webpages. For example, the smilies on my left are all blue, instead of the yellow I assume they should be. Is there any way you could help me to fix this?
Also, I notice that audio does not seem to be working. This isn't a major problem, but I would like it to work.
Finally, whenever I press the @ key, I get ", and vice versa. This isn't a major deal, but if you can advise me on it, please do.
Thanks in advance for your help. Please note that my graphics problems are what I really hope to solve first. If you require any further information, please don't hesitate to ask me. Sorry I don't seem to be able to post any pictures.
Thanks again!
You probably need to change the vga settings in DSL when you boot and in your X setup as well. What kind of computer, monitor and audio card are you using? Try the boot commnad options: dsl vga=788 apm=off apci=off when you get the boot: prompt.
You can set up the keyboard, mouse and monitor when you get to the xsetup screens after the boot process.
PC: Dell Optiplex (not sure which model)
Moniter: Dell E173FP
Audio Card: Intel (not sure of make)
I've tried changing the graphics options at boot time, but it just tells me that the kernal image isn't found or something. Also, where can I find those options for the apm and apci, and what are they.
Listen, thanks a lot for replying to this, I really appreciate it.
Download the Xfree86.dsl extension from the MyDSL Repository and set it up for your video card.
Either that or boot DSL in 640x480x16bit color mode:
dsl vga=normal xsetup
Then choose XVesa and 640x480x16bit
That second option works, cbagger01, thanks a lot. Only prob now is that the onscreen items are huge, and dillo starts automatically when I boot, meaning that I can't get near anything else. I can't even close it!
I'll try that first option now, thanks!
