Other Help Topics :: DSL from scratch?

I have checked the DSLwiki and the FAQ and the forums but have yet to find out how to make a DSL iso from scratch.  Is it even possible?

I've been able to remaster the DSL isos but remastering only gets me so far and seems to cause problems when there are files not covered by dpkg.

Is there some cvs repository with all of the iso creation scripts?  or is there a documentation page on creating an iso from scratch?

thank you very much for your time.

As far as I know, John spent much time remastering Knoppix manually.  If you want to create a DSL from scratch, I'd check out http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ and http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Category:Remastering_Knoppix

ah.  this answers my questions.  thank you.

Actually John began with remastering knx, which was a stripped down Knoppix v3.1.  Since then I have propagated newer versions of DSL using DSL as a template to move forward. It is quite difficult to try to maintain Debian compatibility. Even more so the the new DSL-N. In order to get size down, Debian rules and package management must be broken. Honoring their dependencies would result in a much larger system. Wish Debian was finer grained that presently is.
