Other Help Topics :: I need make!?

OK I am fairly new at DSL, but I am starting to like it (it worked on my ooooold laptop toshiba 225CDS) and even picked up on the wireless).
However, now I want my HP Deskjet 722C to work. So I browsed around, found a supposedly working driver (pnm2ppa), and downloaded it.
However, it needs to be compiled, and I found out that make is not included in DSL!

I tried apt-get install make (after activating apt-get), but it doesn't work???

complaining about a broken pipe and overwriting /bin/chgrp

(sorry couldn't figure out how to cut and paste the full response in here)

So can anybody tell me how I can get make to work under DSL (or if somebody allready got the pnm2ppa pacakge complied and working on the latest DSL, can I get the compiled files?)

First try out the printer config utility that comes with DSL via
the control panel (also try search the forum) . If no go, you can try cups from the repository. Failing that you will have to compile.
For compiling, you need gcc1.dsl and 'make' is in gnu-utils.dsl.

Tanks for the quick reply.

I installed (at least I think I did)   gnu-utils.dsl..
However still no make??
Needless to say my printer wasn,'t listed in the config utility.
I might be missing something painfully obvious (I am new at his) so please don't assume the "obvious"

I believe make is include in the gcc1.dsl extension.  You will need to download some associated libraries as well.  They should all be available in the system myDSL repository.
To use make you need to install glibc...see remastering (48)
