Other Help Topics :: How to record internet radio with DSL

clacker - Thanks, scripting is still new for me and I didn't think about the \ character.

dmizzel - The stations I listen to offer streaming MP3 broadcasts. I think the  station does the compression and streaming in near real-time.  I guess I could find a local station and listen to it on the radio and on the internet and there would probably be some internet lag time...  On DSL I use the EDNA dsl module to do mp3 streaming in my home.  If your station does not offer an mp3 stream then you can use mplayer to record the broadcast as a wav file and convert it to mp3 (or ogg or flac or ...) on your own.

I never even thought I could make a copy that way using mplayer.

didn't know that either. But I do know that mplayer used to be packaged with mencoder - which does encoding.
Part Two of the write up is now posted at newOldUser Blog.  It deals with automating tasks without Cron.
Thanks for the hard work and script to use instead of cron.
