User Feedback :: changes in 0.5.3.1?

I finally got DSL 0.5.3.1 loaded onto the laptop (overwriting 0.4.8)

Tried booting with FDD (pcmcia card not detected by kernel)
Tried putting hdd onto M10000 MB, the floppy disk boot didnt work either.
Finally put Hdd in an already established machine and its now loaded.

Ive noticed a few changes which means the laptop isnt behaving as expected. For example upon boot it loads straight into a terminal and does not load an X server (all my other main machines load it as default). Was there a change in code for this?

How do i stop the sshd, web monkey and nfs daemon servers from being loaded at boot?

I hope the small tweaks will be overcome and I'll have nice little Linux system again. Can't wait to try the printer and smaba client functions ;)

I wasn't aware that sshd started at boot?  At least, I couldn't find it when I ran "top".  I didn't check for Web Monkey, but I would assume it would be the same?

Are you seeing boot messages that say they're starting?  I might just be overlooking them...  (With my current monitor, which is about to bite the dust, I have some trouble seeing the boot messages...)

Well the previous version of DSL on the latop allowed me to login into the laptop via ssh with out enabling any servers. So I assume that the ssh servers are enabled by default.
Some time back, 0.4.9 maybe, we made ssh not start up automatically for safety reasons and to make DSL use less ram.  There is now a 'Daemons' menu, so that they can be optionally started. If you want ssh, httpd and  NFS started automatically you can put a simple script in  /etc/rc5.d/.  RobertS posted somewhere how to modify the later releases so that they boot into X automatically, the switches were made to make DSL a more secure HD install.
OK cheers John.
