yeah the image is about 47mb.. try an md5 checksum....
do you try fb800x600 at boot??? instead of just hit enter or type knoppix?
i thing it works on knoppix, and i thing i try that on an older version on damnsmall, before i buy the 17" inch that i use now.

on a slightly unrelated note, DSL is the only live distro that I have found that does NOT have a blank screen when runnin VMware :D
