User Feedback :: 0.63 feedback

(old notebook 12.5" tft with pesky Neomagic video chip).
Tried 0.63 but went back to 0.62 because hdinstall (standard)
does not seem to reboot properly after Mklilo installation - seems to hang.  As a result, my fb800x600 video setting set at live boot is not remembered as 'previous settings' and the hdinstall reboot defaults to an unuseable vesa setting.  I know this can be corrected by editing the lilo file but it is a shame as it was so simple before with 0.62: Boot disk in, 'fb800x800' live boot parameter, hdinstall and liloinstall, proper reboot straight to correct previous video settings - done.
Otherwise: new ABS setting is fine - useable at last.

Delboy, yes, you found a bug. The easy work around is:
boot: dsl vga=788
That is the same as fb800x600
Thanks for reporting this.

It worked - thanks.  I thought I might have to enter that at every boot with v0.63 but I only had to enter it once at the first live boot - setting was remembered after that following hdinstall.
Unlike v0.62 though, I seem to be missing the box login stage from the boot sequence.  On first reboot after hdinstall I entered the requested passwords but on subsequent reboots boxlogin is bypassed straight to desktop.  everything else seems fine otherwise.

The "box login" is now an option. Way back, DSL use to boot directly into X after the hard drive install. Then users requested multiple user logins. Like a more traditional hard drive installed system . So we changed it. That is the "box login" as you call it. Then some users wanted direct login again. So, we decided to give users a choice. During the hard drive install, you are prompted for "multi user logins?" If you press 'y' then you will have the "box logon" prompt. Pressing anything other than y will make the system boot directly to X desktop as user damnsmall.
I for one am extremely happy you decided to give the option of multiple users or direct login, I like the multiple users approach myself, but I can understand why some people would want the direct login.  In fact I would be even more happy if I had the option of when I log in it not even starting x right away, but I'm probably in the minority on that one.
