so do a sudo chown or something. i havnt tried to configure monkey, but i assume it is possible to set a different dir.
monkey has a config file, really simple, but explanatory.. I find the freakin not logged in as root a holy major pain in my rear..
Go to Apps >Shells > Bash

At the prompt, type in
    sudo su
hit return and that will end your not logged in as root problems.

When you do that you can then set your own password by typing
    passwd
hit return and enter your own password (you'll be prompted to enter it a second time).

Your root login and password will last until you shut down.
