User Feedback :: Boot Problems

Having trouble booting 0.8.3 on a laptop and a desktop. CD will not boot.  Copied boot image from ftp server. Checked downloaded .iso file with Md5sum and all is okay.  Burnt a second CD for further assurance.

Details:
1.  Boot from floppy, Logo appears, hit "Enter".  Computer loads kernal (linux 24).  Loads second step "mintrd....
2.  Screeen goes blank....nothing follows.

                 Next

1.  Boot from Floppy using "F2" options.  Most of these give the same results as above.
2.  The exception is the "failsafe" option.  Booting from the floppy with this gets me thru a lot of the scrolling and install procedure only to come to this message in red text:
  "Cannot find file /Knoppix. Sending you to reduced shell"
Prompt appears "knoppix#"

I am stuck.

Both computers will run 6.x and 7.1 from live CD and the lap top presently has 7.1 installed on the hard drive.

Laptop is Compaq 710US with 512 ram.  More details if needed.

Clues and hints appreciated.
Thanks
